The scam, estimated at Rs 5,000 crore, involves allegations of illegal land allotments to CM Siddaramaiah’s wife. The ED is also investigating, adding pressure on the CM, who denies wrongdoing.

NEW DELHI: Karnataka BJP on Wednesday demanded a CBI investigation into the ongoing MUDA scam case, citing concerns over the effectiveness of the state police’s inquiry.
BJP spokesperson Prakash Sesharaghavachar emphasized the magnitude of the scandal, estimated to be worth around Rs 5000 crore, and expressed doubt over the state police’s handling of the investigation. An application has been filed in the Karnataka high court requesting a CBI probe, with hopes that the court will rule in favor of the move.
Sesharaghavachar said, “The MUDA scam is so huge, it is about Rs 5000 crore. BJP and others have doubts over the investigation carried out by the State Police. It is imperative now for a CBI investigation into the scandal. An application has been filed in the High Court for CBI inquiry. In that regard, they have issued notice. I am sure the final decision will be for a CBI inquiry.”
The controversy surrounding the MUDA scam involves allegations of illegal allotments of valuable land in Mysuru to chief minister Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi. The Lokayukta has already launched an investigation into the matter after a court order on September 27. Karnataka chief minister Siddaramaiah is expected to appear before the Lokayukta police in Mysuru for questioning.
Sesharaghavachar also commented on the ongoing investigation, stating, “After the Special Court ordered a Lokayukta investigation, his (CM Siddaramaiah’s) wife was investigated previously. Today, Siddaramaiah has been issued notice to appear before them. I hope the officials of Lokayukta will not be intimidated by the presence of the chief minister.”
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also taken action, conducting searches at multiple locations in connection with the alleged money laundering linked to the MUDA scam. ED has filed a money laundering case against Siddaramaiah and others, further intensifying the pressure on the chief minister. Siddaramaiah has consistently denied any wrongdoing, calling the investigations politically motivated, and has refused to resign despite calls from the BJP for his resignation.
The Karnataka High Court recently issued notices to Siddaramaiah and others in response to a petition seeking the transfer of the investigation. Further hearings are scheduled for November 26, while the Lokayukta police have been instructed to submit a progress report by November 25.
