In a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati 16, host Amitabh Bachchan shared a deeply touching moment with a contestant named Akshay, who had faced a harrowing battle with cancer. The encounter unfolded when Akshay, his voice trembling with emotion, recounted the hardships of his diagnosis and treatment.

Akshay, an aspiring artist with a keen interest in design, revealed that his journey took an unexpected turn in 2018 when he was diagnosed with cancer. During his treatment, which spanned over one to two years, Akshay faced immense physical and emotional challenges. He detailed how his hospitalizations coincided with his friends’ college experiences, emphasizing the stark contrast between his circumstances and theirs.
“I have always been inclined towards art. As I grew up, I was introduced to design. In 2018, I was diagnosed with cancer. The treatment took place for 1-2 years. During the recovery period, which I spent at home, I started learning designing on my own. I had knee pain for quite some time. After getting scans and all, doctors found a golf ball-sized tumour. Then through biopsy, we found out it is cancerous tumour,” Akshay shared with the audience. “I had chemotherapy sessions and surgery also. When my friends were going to college, I was in hospital. It was a tough fight but a life-altering experience. I learnt a lot. I saw a kid around 6-7 years, who had to undergo surgery and they had to amputate the leg.”
Akshay’s heartfelt narrative brought tears to many eyes, and Amitabh Bachchan responded with his own reflections on dealing with health challenges. Big B, who has also had his share of hospital visits, offered a reassuring perspective, emphasizing the positive aspects of his experiences. “I am sitting in front of you. I have also made many rounds to the hospital but by the blessings of everyone, I have come out healthy,” Bachchan said, addressing Akshay’s concerns. “And there’s no reason to feel upset about your friends who were going to college because they didn’t come to KBC.”
As the host of Kaun Banega Crorepati since its debut in 2000—excluding the third season, which was led by Shah Rukh Khan—Bachchan has witnessed countless emotional and inspiring stories. The season 16 of the show premiered earlier this month.
