GUWAHATI: With the birth of two cubs on Tuesday, the tiger population in Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) has gone up further. In a significant increase in the tiger count in the reserve, its numbers rose from 109 in 2022 to 148 in 2024.
Forest officials, who sighted the cubs through camera trap images during patrolling, said they were born within the central range of Biswanath Ghat, situated in the reserve’s 10th addition area. This section stretches over approximately 452ha under Biswanath Wildlife Division.
The arrival of the cubs marks a substantial achievement for the park’s conservation programme, which has entailed the first official monitoring of the feline’s presence in Biswanath Wildlife Division.
