Two instalments of the social security and welfare fund board pensions will be released in May, the Kerala Finance department said on Thursday.

The instalments include the monthly payment for May 2025 as well as one pending instalment, which means each beneficiary would be paid ₹3,200. The State government would require around ₹1,800 crore to meet these payments, Finance Minister K.N. Balagopal said.

Last year, the arrears in the social security, welfare fund board pension payments had mounted to five instalments. In July 2024, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan had informed the Legislative Assembly that the five pending payments, amounting to ₹4,250 crore, would be disbursed in the 2024-25 and 2025-26 fiscals.

Mr. Vijayan had said that two pending instalments would be distributed in the current fiscal and the remaining three, in 2025-26. As announced then, the government had released two pending instalments in 2024-25.

The payment in May would be the first of the three pending instalments kept for the 2025-26 fiscal. These monthly pensions are paid to around 62 lakh beneficiaries. Mr. Balagopal said that from March 2024 the government had ensured timely payment of the monthly pensions.
