NEW DELHI: Shruti, a 24-year-old woman from Kerala‘s Wayanad, has faced a series of personal tragedies recently, with recent being the landslide that killed her entire family on July 30.
In the disaster that struck Chooralmala and Mundakkai villages in Meppadi panchayat, her family of nine, including her parents and younger sister, were killed, according to news agency PTI.
Shruti’s suffering compounded on Wednesday when her fiance Jenson passed away after getting critically injured in a car accident on September 10. He was being treated at Dr Moopen Medical College.
He succumbed to his injuries at 8:50 PM, according to a Hospital’s spokesperson.
Jenson, 27, worked for a car-cleaning company and was Shruti’s support system after her family’s tragic death.
The couple had been engaged since June 2 following a ten-year courtship. They had planned to marry in December but decided to opt for a simple court-registered marriage in September.
The accident happened when Jenson’s car collided head-on with a private bus. Shruti and other family members of Jenson, who were in the same car, were also injured.
Doctors claimed that Jenson was brought to the hospital in critical condition, with very low vital signs and excessive bleeding from his nose and brain.
On August 29, Shruti and Jenson had visited Puthumala graveyard, where some of her family members were buried.
Jenson had told Shruti, “I promised myself that I would never leave the side of my school-time friend Shruti.”
Shruti also lost about Rs 4 lakh in cash, around 15 sovereigns of gold, and her newly-built home in the landslides. The disaster claimed over 200 lives in the region.
