A former employee has defended King Charles against claims of being ‘irascible’ or intolerant, describing him as “absolutely not a monster in the office.” The defence comes amid scrutiny over his temper, especially following a video showing him irritated by a leaking fountain pen after the Queen’s death.
While past reports suggested the King could be prone to anger, particularly towards perceived incompetence, the ex-staff member emphasised a different experience.Speaking to the Daily Beast, the source said, “Charles can have a terrible temper… Anything he perceives as incompetence particularly brings it out – he doesn’t suffer fools gladly.” However, they noted that, “in fairness to him, as anyone who has actually worked with him will tell you, he himself is always extremely well prepared, well-read on the subject matter of people he meets and is working with, diligent and respectful of expertise.”
The former employee added, “Ultimately, people like working for him, but everyone is under a lot of pressure because his office is incredibly busy. He’s absolutely not a monster in the office, but he is human, and he snaps sometimes… Unfortunately there is sometimes a camera on him when it happens.”
A friend of the King and Queen also confirmed, “He has an irascible streak to be sure, but it is much better since he has been with Camilla.” They noted that “Everyone, regardless of their position or status, experiences everyday irritations, but literally every move – every gesture – he makes is scrutinised.”
In related news, editor-at-large for the Mail on Sunday, Charlotte Griffiths, remarked on Prince William’s apparent detachment from the ongoing tensions involving Prince Harry and Meghan. Griffiths stated, “This is a guy who has a lot of big things on his plate. He has two very sick relatives one of whom is his wife.” She added, “He could be the King in the next few years and the idea that he’s going to get bogged down by more psychodrama from his brother, from Montecito, from Meghan… he’s just moved past all of that.”
