Kozhikode man accuses filmmaker Ranjith of sexual abuse, files complaint; claims nude pictures were taken |

Following a complaint of misconduct filed by a Bengali actor, a man from Kozhikode has lodged a sexual abuse complaint against Malayalam filmmaker Ranjith. The man alleged that Ranjith sexually abused him in 2012, in a five-star hotel in Bengaluru.
The complainant told Asianet News that he met filmmaker Ranjith during the shooting of the film ‘Bavuttiyude Namathil’, starring Mammootty, in Kozhikode.He had visited the set to watch the shoot and managed to meet Ranjith. After expressing his interest in acting, Ranjith allegedly gave him a phone number written on a tissue paper, instructing him to text rather than call.
The Kozhikode man alleged that after texting Ranjith, the filmmaker invited him to visit him in Bengaluru. Upon arriving at the hotel, the receptionist informed him that visiting hours were over. The man claimed that he relayed this to Ranjith, who then instructed him to enter the room through the back door. Once inside, the complainant noticed that Ranjith had consumed alcohol. Ranjith allegedly offered him a drink, which he initially refused but later accepted. According to the complainant, Ranjith’s demeanor changed after that, and the director allegedly asked him to undress, expressing a desire to see how he looked naked in the mirror, and also asked him to wear kajal. The director also allegedly said that his ‘eyes were beautiful’.
The complainant told the news channel that he could not disclose what Ranjith did to him but stated that the filmmaker sexually abused him. He added that he would speak to the police. He also claimed that Ranjith took nude photos of him, saying he wanted to show them to his ‘actress’ girlfriend, who was staying in the same hotel.

The man further claimed that he had sought a role in movies but that Ranjith had avoided him since the alleged incident. He stated that the ongoing Me Too movement and the release of the Hema Committee report prompted him to come forward and speak out.

Meanwhile, it was after the release of the Hema Committee report that Bengali actor Sreelekha Mitra leveled serious allegations of misconduct against the filmmaker. Following these accusations, Ranjith resigned as chairman of the Kerala Chalachitra Academy on Sunday, August 25. The actress later filed a formal complaint regarding Ranjith’s inappropriate behavior, which allegedly took place in Kochi in 2009.
