CHANDIGARH: Haryana chief secretary Sanjeev Kaushal said on Friday that the construction work of the Kurukshetra elevated track, which is being constructed by Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation (HRIDC) for Rs 350 crore, is in the final stages and will be completed by March this year.
The construction of this track will eliminate five manned level crossings on the Kurukshetra-Narwana railway line and significantly improve the operation and safety of rail and road traffic in Kurukshetra city.
Kaushal was addressing the first annual function of the corporation after inaugurating the newly constructed office building of Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation at Sector 32, Gurugram earlier today.
He mentioned that the Haryana Rail Orbital Rail Corridor (HORC), an associate company of the corporation, is laying a 126 km long mid-high speed railway track with overhead electrification from Palwal to Sonipat via Sohna, Manesar, and Kharkhoda for double-stack container freight. A double-decker freight train will also be able to run on it easily. The land acquisition work has been completed by the Haryana government to complete the project, and compensation of Rs 1100 crore has been given to the farmers. The railway project covers parts of Sonipat, Rohtak, Jhajjar, and Gurugram districts. The project is being carried out by the corporation by making a special purpose vehicle (SPV) with HSIIDC, GMDA, and private companies Maruti and Allcargo.
The Chief Secretary said that Haryana is the first state in northern India where a modern and new railway system is being developed in the state by forming a Railway Corporation. He appreciated the contribution of all the officers and employees for the achievements of HRIDC Corporation and expressed hope that in the future also the corporation will set new records in the field of development of the railway system in the state.
On the occasion, Shri Kaushal also launched the new logo of the Haryana Rail Infrastructure Development Corporation and a portal called ‘SPEED’. The Chief Secretary felicitated the officers and employees of the corporation for their outstanding work. Shri Vineet Garg, Additional Chief Secretary, Forest and Environment Department, Government of Haryana was also present at the event.
Speaking at the function, Vivek Joshi, Secretary, Department of Financial Services, Government of India, said that the Haryana government can take a long-term loan from the National Bank for Finance and Infrastructure to develop its rail projects. The event was attended by the AGM of Northern Railway.
Speaking to reporters later, Chief Secretary Kaushal informed that Haryana Metro Corporation will also be formed soon. This initiative is being pursued at a high level. A secretary-level officer of the Government of India will be the chairman of the corporation, and an administrative officer of the Government of Haryana will be its Managing Director. The Chief Secretary also announced that the construction of the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) from Gurugram to Bhiwadi is set to commence shortly.
