Kuwait to give USD 15,000 compensation to kin of Mangaf fire victims: Report | India News

NEW DELHI: The Kuwaiti government has announced that it will provide compensation of USD 15,000 (approximately Rs 12.5 lakh) to each family of the victims who lost their lives in the devastating fire that occurred in the southern Ahmadi Governorate on July 12.
The fire, which was caused by an electrical short circuit in the guard’s room on the ground floor of a seven-storey building in the city of Mangaf, claimed the lives of 50 people, including 46 Indians, three Filipinos, and one unidentified victim.The building housed 196 migrant workers, predominantly Indians.
According to government sources cited by the Arab Times newspaper, the compensation payments will be processed and delivered to the embassies of the victims. The embassies will then ensure that the funds are distributed to the affected families promptly and efficiently, providing support during this difficult time.
In addition to the compensation provided by the Kuwaiti government, the Indian government has announced compensation of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of Indian nationals who lost their lives in the fire. The Kerala government has also pledged to provide Rs 5 lakh financial assistance to the families of the 24 Malayalis who died in the tragedy.
Kuwait‘s public prosecutor has initiated an investigation into the incident to uncover the circumstances and potential triggers behind the deadly fire. Several individuals, including a Kuwaiti citizen and several foreigners, have been arrested in connection with charges of manslaughter and causing injuries due to negligence in security and safety measures following the fire incident.
