What went wrong? What led to the apparent suicide of the LSU Tigers’ former wide receiver, Kyren Lacy? What led to Kyren Lacy giving it up all before it even began? Before the grand jury could listen to his side of the story? On Monday, the grand jury was going to begin the proceedings of Kyren Lacy’s involvement in the car crash case, which led to the death of a 78-year-old US Marine, Herman Hall.
But before it could all spring to life, Kyren Lacy allegedly committed suicide in a police car chase. What went wrong? Why didn’t everybody around him trust the process? Like Kyren Lacy had posted on his X on February 3, 2025 – “Trust da process!🙏🏽”

Kyren Lacy had reposted a WAFB X post with the caption – “Trust da process!🙏🏽” on 2/3/2025. The post had WAFB’s article, where Kyren Lacy’s lawyer, Matthew Ory, had released a statement back in February 2025. According to WAFB.com, Matthew Ory’s statement read:
“On the day of the accident, Mr. Lacy was driving on a road with two lanes, one in each direction. While he briefly passed other vehicles, he safely reentered his lane without incident.
The collision that resulted in the death of Mr. Herman was not caused by Mr. Lacy’s actions.
The accident occurred directly in front of him when a second vehicle in the oncoming lane crossed the centerline and collided with Mr. Herman’s vehicle, in which he was a passenger.
We are of information and belief that the vehicle that collided with Mr. Herman’s vehicle was issued a citation.
At no time did Mr. Lacy’s vehicle strike the rear of Mr. Herman’s vehicle, nor did any of the vehicles Mr. Lacy passed collide with his. After the collision occurred in front of Mr. Lacey, he cautiously went around the vehicles after passage was safe.”
It is crucial to emphasize that Mr Lacy did not cause or contribute to the crash – said Matthew Ory, lawyer of Kyren Lacy, back in February 2025
Kyren Lacy’s lawyer, Matthew Ory, continued, “It is crucial to emphasize that Mr. Lacy did not cause or contribute to the crash. There was no suspicion of alcohol or drug use involved. Furthermore, contrary to some media reports, Mr. Lacy never “returned” to the scene of the accident.
Mr. Lacy’s actions following the incident, including sharing graduation pictures and engaging in training, were never intended to minimize the tragedy that occurred.
Kyren Lacy did not believe he was at fault for the accident, and as such, he continued with his daily activities – said Matthew Ory, Kyren Lacy’s lawyer, back in February 2025
Matthew Ory said in the statement, “He(Kyren Lacy) did not believe he was at fault for the accident, and as such, he continued with his daily activities. Throughout his career, Mr. Lacy has been an exemplary community member and teammate. We ask that he not be judged prematurely, and we are confident that further investigation will show he acted within the bounds of the law. I will vigorously defend his innocence in this case.”
What went wrong? In these two months? Why was there an argument between a family member and Kyren Lacy two days before the grand jury proceedings were to begin? Why was Kyren Lacy being chased by the police? Why did he have a gun? Why did he give it all up? Why was there an apparent suicide? Why didn’t the authorities try to contact him, pacify him, and try to calmly get him out of the car? How did Kyren die? What went wrong?
