NEW DELHI: Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar on Thursday urged the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of all states and Union territories to focus their energies on delivering a “spotless” general election, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the best possible experience for voters.
Addressing a conference of all the CEOs, which spanned two days and featured CEOs from states where polls were recently held sharing their experiences, best practices, and lessons learned, Kumar described the “road to the elections as a journey of duty and resolve.” He expressed confidence in the readiness of the election machinery, highlighting the necessary interventions to make the electoral experience pleasant for all stakeholders.
The EC brass and the CEOs brainstormed on various themes like election planning, expenditure monitoring, electoral roll, IT applications, data management, electronic voting machines, and voter education and awareness.
Election Commissioner Anup Chandra Pandey said the CEOs’ conference is the culmination of an exercise that started with various conferences, workshops, trainings, and seminars organized over the past six months as part of preparations for the 2024 elections.
It provides a platform for cross-fertilization of ideas, where participants learn from each other about challenges, solutions, and best practices in election management, he stated.
Election Commissioner Arun Goel said the CEOs’ conference offers a platform for team-building ahead of the mammoth task of conducting the upcoming general election. Borrowing from military parlance, he described the CEOs as the commanding officers of the 10-million-strong election team.
A new and improved version of the EC website was launched at the conference. An EC spokesperson on Thursday said the website has been redesigned to offer a better user experience and easier access to information for all stakeholders. “The website features a dedicated section where voters, political parties, and candidates can access all relevant information, services, IT platforms, and apps at one place. The EC’s official social media feeds are directly integrated into the website, keeping users informed and engaged with the EC’s latest updates, announcements, and community interactions on social media, without having to leave the main website.”
