Aamir Khan was the special guest at the trailer launch of his son’s second film and first theatrical venture, Loveyapa at the expansive New Excelsior theatre in South Mumbai. They were joined by lead actress Khushi Kapoor, actor Ashutosh Rana, director Advait Chandan, producers Srishti Behl Arya and Madhu Mantena and others. Aamir Khan made a heartfelt speech and also raised laughs. He also confirmed that he has indeed quit smoking cigarettes.
Loveyapa trailer launch: Aamir Khan CONFIRMS – “Smoking is something I love very much but I’ve given up on smoking”
Aamir Khan was asked about reports that he has decided to quit smoking if Loveyapa turns out to be a hit. On this, he said, “I’ve given up on smoking. Smoking is something I love very much. It’s something I enjoy. Ab kya bolu, sach baat hai (laughs). For years, I was smoking cigarettes, fir main pipe pi raha tha. Tobacco is something I enjoy. It’s not good for your health. Kisi ko nahin karna chahiye.”
He continued, “Hence, I am happy to announce that I have given up on this bad habit. All this listening or watching this, please quit smoking. Yeh acchi aadat nahin hai. Nahin karna chahiye.”
Aamir further said, “This is the reason that worked for me. I wanted to quit smoking anyway. It was good timing as my son’s career was about to start. Hence, maine apne dil mein ek mannat maangi that whether or not the film works, I am giving up on smoking. As a father, I wanted to make this sacrifice, hoping that somewhere, it would go in the universe and pay off. You guys also pray for it.”
He ended by saying, “In fact, I’d like to say that it’s a very bad habit. Aap smoking karna shuru hi mat kariye. And if you do, quit immediately. You’ll feel very happy.” As expected, there was applause over his answer at the venue.
Loveyapa releases in cinemas on February 7.
