CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu chief minister M K Stalin, who returned to Chennai on Wednesday morning after his official visit to Spain, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is functioning like an opposition party leader by constantly criticising the Congress party.
“One thing I couldn’t understand is that right from the day he (Modi) became the PM, he is functioning as if BJP is the opposition party and the Congress is the ruling party. He keeps on attacking Congress in his speeches like the opposition party criticising the ruling party,” Stalin told reporters at Chennai airport.
Asked about Modi’s claim that BJP would win 400 seats in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, Stalin quipped, “I will not be surprised if he says that he will capture all the 543 (Lok Sabha) seats.”
Asked about actor Vijay launching his political party, Stalin said, “I will be happy if anyone enters politics with the intention to serve people.”
Stalin said MoUs to the tune of Rs 3,440 crore were signed with Spanish companies during his visit to that country.
He met the industrialists, officials from the ministry of economy, commerce and business and representatives from ‘Invest Spain.’
“I explained to them the conducive environment prevailing for investment in Tamil Nadu and I urged them to invest in our state,” Stalin said.
Stalin said he had met representatives of top companies in person and invited them to invest in TN. Some of the important companies with which Stalin interacted were Acciona, a renowned windmill company, Roko construction company, Hapag-Lloyd, a leader in construction of container terminals, Gestamp automobile company, Dalko, Edibon and others.
“The representatives of the companies explained to me their business plans and expressed their interest in investing in Tamil Nadu,” Stalin said.
Among the MoUs, Hapag-Lloyd signed an MoU worth Rs 2,500 crore, Edibon signed an MoU worth Rs 540 crore and Roko signed an MoU worth Rs 400 crore.
“I am confident that other companies will also come forward to invest in Tamil Nadu in future,” Stalin said.
Calling his Spain visit as an “achievement,” Stalin said such future trips would also be planned for the industrial growth of the state.
