NEW DELHI: On March 16, 2024, the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the 2024 Indian general election, with Madhya Pradesh scheduled to vote during the first four phases on April 19, 26, May 7, and 13. The state’s parliamentary elections will be conducted across these phases, ensuring a staggered approach for smooth conduct and maximum participation.
Constituency-wise voting dates:
The state’s 29 Lok Sabha constituencies will participate in the electoral process as per the following breakdown:

Madhya Pradesh boasts 29 Lok Sabha constituencies, each representing a diverse range of regions and demographics.From urban centers like Indore to rural constituencies like Tikamgarh, the state’s electoral map reflects its political significance in national elections. Both the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) have a strong presence in the state, making it a battleground for electoral supremacy.
From 1980 to 2019, the voter turnout in Madhya Pradesh’s Lok Sabha elections has depicted various trends among different political parties. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Indian National Congress (INC) have been the major contenders in these elections, with voter participation witnessing fluctuations over the years. In 1980, the BJP garnered a voter turnout of 45.3%, slightly lower than the INC’s 50.2%, with other parties securing 4.5% of the votes. In subsequent elections, the voter turnout for both BJP and INC showed incremental increases, with the BJP surpassing the INC’s turnout in 1996 with 54.5% compared to 42.9%. This trend continued in subsequent elections, with the BJP consistently maintaining higher voter turnouts compared to the INC. In 2019, the BJP recorded a turnout of 61.2%, while the INC trailed behind at 35.8%. Throughout these years, other parties also maintained a relatively stable turnout, hovering around 3%. These figures illustrate the dynamic electoral landscape of Madhya Pradesh, reflecting the shifting preferences of its electorate over the decades.
2019 Lok Sabha Elections: A Recap:
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Madhya Pradesh witnessed a closely contested electoral battle between the BJP and the INC across its 29 parliamentary constituencies. While the BJP managed to retain 28 seats, the INC held on its one seat of Chhindwara.
