DATA SINGHWALA-KHANAURI/ JIND: A major clash erupted between Punjab farmers and police personnel at the state border after Punjab farmers made an effort to enter Haryana. This direct confrontation lasted for three hours continuously in which police fired tear shells multiple times nearly around 50 in this period. During this clash sometimes farmers chased police personnel and sometimes police chased tham at Delhi Patiala national highway.
Farmers started gathering at state border nearly around 12 pm but clash erupted around 3 pm. Scores of farmers and local residents from Haryana side were standing in fields by walking two to three kilometres to extend support to farmers by raising slogans.
Reportedly, Over 15 farmers sustained injurious in this incident and around 8 police personnel too received injuries who are under treatment. Ambulance was seen carrying patients towards Haryana side.
Police failed to sense a mobilisation from Haryana side to border. It is observed that police officials sought to send a strong message among farmers by firing tear gas shells and use of water cannon on farmers but it went against them as Haryana farmers got angry following police action. They started gathering at the state border from various villages of Haryana and started a dharna in support of their counterparts. However, Jind SP Sumit Kumar made an effort to remove them from border but failed. Gradually their strength went up to 500 who started a sit in protest and addressed their fellow farmers. They refused to step down and denied to go back until Punjab farmers get a free and safe passage towards Delhi.
However, on seeing the situation, higher police officials called extra force following which a massive force was deployed at state border to disperse them. Later police fired several tear gas shells besides restoring to lathicharge and managed to remove them. Police chased them for around one kilometre but protestors again stood there.
Talking to TOI, Vikash Sonu and other farmers said that Haryana farmers will not tolerate action on Punjab farmers. “We will provide them a strong back up and this hurdles would be removed soon. We are committed to break this border as a mark of unity with our brothers of Punjab. We had sacrificed 700 lives in 2020-21 and now ready to give more life for the upcoming generations. Therefore, we make it clear that farmers will to Delhi border at any cost, he added.
Now it is learnt that police will have to fight over two fronts of Punjab d and Haryana. Punjab farmers managed to reached near border nearly around a distance of 100 meter. Apart from it, Haryana farmers too started a protest nearly 100 meter from main point of barricadings from Haryana side. Police made all arrangements towards Punjab but everything is open from Haryana side following which farmers managed to reach the border easily. This move gave a moral support to their counterparts who started moving towards Haryana which led to a clash between them.se made by the centre,” he added.
