The Mayiladuthurai District Sessions Court has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in a domestic dispute. The court imposed a fine of ₹5,000, with an additional one-year imprisonment in case of non-payment.

The case pertains to 2017, when Paramasivam, 64, a resident of Thiruppungur, lodged a complaint at the Vaitheeswarankoil police station regarding the suspicious death of his daughter, Devi, 28. Devi was married in 2016 to the accused Saravanan, a resident of Ellaiyamman Koil Street, Chidambaram, in Cuddalore district.

On March 29, 2017, Devi was found dead near the backyard entrance of her house. Her father, suspecting foul play, filed a complaint with the police. The police initially registered it as a case of unnatural death. But investigation revealed that Saravanan had assaulted his wife on the night of her death. He allegedly struck her head against a wall, leading to fatal injuries before fleeing the scene.

Following a detailed inquiry, Saravanan was arrested and remanded in judicial custody. The trial took place at the Mayiladuthurai District Sessions Court, which found Saravanan guilty.
