A man has been sentenced to life imprisonment and slapped with a penalty of ₹10,000 for raping a woman under Sanjamala police station limits nearly five years ago. According to police, the survivor went to a temple along with her brother in Perusomula village of Sanjamala mandal in Nandyal district when her brother went missing. She began searching for her brother when the convict Uppu Naga Harikrishna of the same village approached her and, on the pretext of helping her, took her on a motorcycle to a place near the GNSS canal on the outskirts of the village and sexually assaulted and raped her. The trial was conducted under the supervision of Superintendent of Police Adhiraj Singh Rana. Special Sessions judge for trail of offences against woman-cum-VII Additional District and Sessions Judge, Kurnool, V. Lakshmirajyam, on Tuesday, pronounced the judgment convicting Harikrishna.
