Man loses over Rs 2 lakh to fraudsters offering job in Qatar university | Thane News

THANE: A 32-year-old man residing in Thane district, Maharashtra, fell victim to a scam where two unidentified individuals duped him of over Rs 2 lakh under the pretext of offering a professorial position at Qatar University, as reported by the police on Saturday. The case was officially registered on Friday at the Ambernath police station.
The complainant, a resident of Gautam Nagar in Ambernath, detailed in his complaint that he had been contacted by two individuals posing as recruiters through phone calls and emails.These fraudulent recruiters claimed to have an opportunity for him to work as a professor at Qatar University. The victim, trusting their representation, ended up transferring Rs 2,28,600 to the fraudsters between August and October 2023.
The accused individuals instructed the victim to make payments for various purposes, including registration fees, document verification, visa processing, and a medical examination. However, when the victim inquired about the expected appointment date, the scammers provided vague and evasive responses. Frustrated and realizing he had been deceived, the victim decided to approach the police and filed a complaint.
The police official stated that the investigation into the case is currently ongoing.
