NEW DELHI: Suspected Kuki militants killed four villagers, including a father-son duo, in Manipur’s Churachandpur district, police said on Thursday.
A police official in the capital Imphal said that the four villagers from the Akasoi village had gone to a nearby forested area in Churachandpur district on Wednesday to collect firewood before militants kidnapped and killed them.
The cops recovered the bodies of the victims on Thursday from Kumbi in the Bishnupur district.
The four victims have been identified as Ibomcha Singh (51) and his son Anand Singh (20), Romen Singh (38) and Dara Singh (37).
Villagers saw the dead bodies in the social media network, operated by various Kuki organisations and informed the police, who then recovered the bodies.
The security forces are now conducting search operations to arrest the militants.
The incident comes days after a fresh bout of violence erupted in Manipur’s Moreh as militants launched an attack on state police forces. The clash led to a prolonged gunfight between security forces and militants. The militants targeted the security forces’ barracks with nearly two dozen crude bombs.
Following the violence in Moreh chief minister N Biren Singh said that there was a “high likelihood” of involvement from foreign mercenaries hailing from Myanmar in the attacks in Moreh.
