NEW DELHI: A maoist couple carrying a combined bounty of Rs 10 lakh surrendered before police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) officials on Thursday in Chhattisgarh’s Mohla Manpur Ambagarh Chawki district.
Pawan Tulavi and his wife Payem Oyam had been active in the left wing extremism organization for 17 years.
The couple turned themselves in to superintendent of police YP Singh and ITBP Commandants Mukesh Kumar Dhasmana and Vivek Kumar Pandey of the 44th and 27th battalions.
Pawan Tulavi, also known as Maling, is a 37-year-old resident of Dorde village under Madanwada police station. He currently serves as the Area Committee Member (ACM) and commander of the press unit in the Maad Division, with a Rs 5 lakh reward on his head.
After joining the left wing extremists in 2008, Tulavi worked as a teacher in Jantana Sarkar of Maad division from 2013 to 2019. He was promoted to ACM in 2016 and has been serving as Maad division Press Unit Commander since 2020.
His wife Payem Oyam, 27, hails from Tadbalala village under Bhairamgarh police station in Bijapur district. She has been active with the Indravati Area Committee since 2011 and currently operates in Narayanpur as a Party Platoon Committee Member in platoon number 16, carrying a Rs 5 lakh reward.
Oyam previously worked as a guard for CCM Sonu until 2018.
“In the last 15 years, continuous operations by the police and ITBP in the erstwhile Rajnandgaon district and presently Mohla Manpur Ambagarh district have dealt a severe blow to the activities of left wing extremists,” said the ITBP.
