KANPUR: A major fire destroyed a fast food shop and seven temporary shops in the Fagua town in Kannauj on Monday night. A fire broke out in Shyambabu Saxena‘s snack shop in the Tirwa Kotwali area of Faguabhatta, apparently following the spilling of oil on a gas stove. Shyambabu and his brother Chotu, alias Sadangopal, were making ‘samosas’.While removing the pan from the stove, oil spilled, causing a sudden fire that engulfed the wooden stall. Both brothers immediately managed to escape. The fire also reached the gas cylinder, which exploded, intensifying the blaze further.A total of seven temporary wooden stalls were gutted in this incident, including those of Shyambabu Saxena, Bhagwan Das, Subhash Kushwaha, Sona Kushwaha, Ramdas, Budhpal Savita, and Pintu Verma. Local residents tried to extinguish the fire.The revenue officer assessed the situation, and the police and fire brigade teams arrived at the scene. However, by then, all the shops were destroyed. Revenue Officer Abhishek Dwivedi assessed the damage on-site and estimated a loss of around 500,000 rupees. In this regard, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Navneeta Rai stated that all victims will be compensated according to the rules after assessing their losses.
