NEW DLEHI: Massive landslides have struck various hilly areas near Meppadi in Wayanad district, Kerala, early on Tuesday, causing concerns that hundreds may be trapped.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) has deployed Fireforce and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams to the affected areas, with an additional NDRF team on its way to Wayanad.
The KSDMA announced on Facebook that two teams from the Kannur Defence Security Corps have also been instructed to assist in the rescue efforts.
Local reports indicate that many people are feared trapped, and ongoing heavy rainfall is complicating rescue operations.
