NEW DELHI: Pace sensation Mayank Yadav on Sunday became the third Indian seamer to bowl a maiden in his very first over in T20I cricket, after Ajit Agarkar and Arshdeep Singh, during a match against Bangladesh in Gwalior.
Ajit Agarkar was the first Indian to achieve this milestone. In a T20I against South Africa at Johannesburg in 2006, Agarkar bowled a maiden over in his debut match, setting the tone for India’s bowling attack.
First over in T20I career a maiden for India
- Ajit Agarkar vs SA Joburg 2006
- Arshdeep Singh vs Eng Southampton 2022
- Mayank Yadav vs Ban Gwalior 2024
16 years later in 2022, young Arshdeep replicated this achievement during his debut against England in Southampton.Known for his ability to swing the ball both ways, Arshdeep displayed remarkable control, bowling a maiden over and putting the English batsmen on the back foot right from the start.
In 2024, Mayank, who finished with figures of 1/21, joined this elite club by making an immediate impact in his very first over. An over later he picked up his maiden wicket by dismissing Bangladesh all-rounder Mahmudullah with a 146.1kph delivery, showcasing his raw pace and precision.
The promising young fast bowler showcased his talent during the 2024 Indian Premier League while playing for the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). His raw pace and ability to generate quick deliveries caught the attention of cricket enthusiasts and experts alike.
Unfortunately, his impressive stint in the IPL was cut short due to an injury, which prevented him from further displaying his skills on the field. Despite the setback, the pacer’s performance in the tournament left a lasting impact on those who witnessed his bowling prowess.
