CHENNAI: A mobile phone has been seized from the cell of Muslim fundamentalists Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik in the high-security block at the Puzhal Central Prison.
The mobile phone was recovered during a surprise check in Prison – 1, where convicted prisoners are detained.
Following the seizure, the prison officials lodged a complaint with the Puzhal police station. The police registered a fresh case against the two fundamentalists for the possession of the mobile phone inside the prison cell, which is banned.
Panna Ismail and Bilal Malik were arrested by the Tamil Nadu police from a rented house in Puthur, Andhra Pradesh, on Oct 5, 2013. The duo and their associate ‘Police’ S Fakruddin confessed to murdering half a dozen Hindu leaders, including an auditor in Salem. The CB-CID police probed the case, and the trio got convicted in two cases while the other cases are under trial now.
