Modi, King Charles reaffirm India, U.K. relationship on call

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Britain’s King Charles III spoke on the phone on Wednesday (December 18, 2024), as per the government, reaffirming the India-U.K. partnership and exchanging greetings for Christmas and the New Year.

“Recalling the historic relations between the two countries, they both reaffirmed [their] commitment to further strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the U.K.,” the government readout said.

The two men exchanged views on the Commonwealth and the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Samoa which was held in October. Mr. Modi did not attend the meeting.

On Wednesday’s (December 18, 2024) call, Mr. Modi and King Charles also discussed climate action and sustainability, areas that the British monarch has been active in for several decades.

“[The] Prime Minister expressed his appreciation for His Majesty’s sustained advocacy and initiatives on these issues and briefed him on the multiple initiatives undertaken by India,” the government readout said.

The King, who was diagnosed with prostate cancer in early 2024, has been undergoing treatment for the disease. Mr. Modi conveyed his best wishes to the King for his health and well-being, the government said.
