SALEM: Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) in Salem on Tuesday detained a motor vehicle inspector (MVI) for questioning after unaccounted money to the tune of Rs 1.4 lakh was found in his vehicle.
The detained motor vehicle inspector has been identified as Leo Antony, 45, from Erode district, who was on duty at a checkpost near Hosur in Krishnagiri district.
DVAC sleuths received a tip-off that the MVI was travelling from Hosur to Erode with bribe money. A DVAC team, led by additional superintendent of police Kirushnaa Raajan and inspector N Narendran, stopped Antony’s vehicle near a toll plaza at Karuppur. The team searched his car and found Rs 1.4 lakh in cash.
A DVAC officer said Antony could not produce any document for the money. He was taken to the Salem DVAC unit office for further interrogation.
The officer said that an investigation would be carried out against Antony for carrying the cash. A report would be submitted to his superiors, which may result in a potential departmental action against him.
