A five-day climate festival, titled “Mountains of Life” will be conducted by Kuvempu University and Azim Premji University at Kuvempu University from March 3.
The festival will bring together students, artists, non-governmental organisations, teachers, young professionals, and local communities to share their experiences of living and working in the mountains.
Sharath Ananthamurthy, Vice-Chancellor of Kuvempu University, said the Mountains of Life would be an outreach programme of Azim Premji University.
“The programme has been designed to educate children on climate change. Azim Premji University has held the festival earlier in different places, and now they are holding it on our campus, which is located amidst the Western Ghats,” he said.
Sharad Sure, registrar of Azim Premji University, said that the university earlier held “Rivers of Life” and “Forests of Life”, and this time the “Mountains of Life” would be held at Kuvempu University.
“We have involved interns across the country to come out with content on climate change. Our aim is to involve schoolchildren, particularly students of government schools. More than 3,000 students have already registered to take part in the programme,” he said.
K. Yogendra of the Department of Environmental Science said that the five-day festival would include various activities, including film screenings, interactions, lecturers, and demonstrations. “We are making arrangements to bring students from nearby schools for the festivals,” he added.
M.R. Sathyaprakash, professor of Journalism, J. Narayana, professor of Environment Science, and Rashmi Prabhakar and Shashwat D.C. of Azim Premji University were present at the press conference.
