NAGPUR: A tense calm prevailed in Mahal on Tuesday morning after a night of violent clashes that left several injured, including policemen. Streets remained largely deserted, with almost all shops keeping their shutters down in Mahal.
Heavy police deployment continued at key points, including Chitnis Park Chowk, Tilak Putla, Agressan Square, Badkas Chowk, and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Putla Chowk. Barricades remained in place as security forces patrolled the area to prevent any further escalation.
Traces of last night’s violence were still visible. Burnt remains of a car, broken glass shards, and scattered stones lay on the roads, marking the spots where clashes erupted, with sanitation workers cleaning the roadways. Police personnel in riot gear stood guard, while teams assessed the damage.
Residents said they spent a sleepless night, fearing more violence. “We kept hearing sirens and police announcements. No one knew if things would get worse,” said a resident. Many locals refrained from sending children to school or stepping out for work.
Authorities are keeping a close watch, and police confirmed that detentions continued overnight.
