Bollywood actor Nana Patekar recently reminisced about his experience of working with filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali on the 1996 film Khamoshi: The Musical. He revealed a creative disagreement that led to on-set tension.

In an interview with The Lallantop, Nana Patekar discussed his struggle with anger management and a specific instance of conflict with SLB during the filming of Khamoshi. He described a scene where his character, who is deaf, learns of his wife’s heart attack. Nana disagreed with Sanjay’s direction for the scene, where his character was supposed to turn around upon sensing something was wrong.

Nana explained, “How would I know what’s happening behind my back? Sanjay wanted me to turn. He said that there is an unspoken bond that a couple shares, but this wasn’t a strong enough reason for me to understand the scene. I said I needed a concrete reason. And then…He hasn’t worked with me again.”

The veteran actor acknowledged his own potential contribution to the situation, stating, “Perhaps I stepped out of line.” However, he further spoke about the importance of building relationships beyond professional collaborations. He concluded by expressing his regret that the disagreement potentially affected their future working relationship, as Bhansali hasn’t cast him in any films since Khamoshi.
Released in 1996, Khamoshi: The Musical was a romantic drama starring Nana Patekar, Seema Biswas, Salman Khan, and Manisha Koirala. The film featured Nana and Seema playing mute and deaf characters.
