The Telugu Desam Party’s annual three-day conclave, Mahanadu, is currently taking place in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district, with top TDP leaders in attendance. The event is set to culminate with the announcement of organisational positions on May 29.

A key topic of speculation in political circles is the potential elevation of TDP general secretary Nara Lokesh. Besides his role in the party, Lokesh also serves as the minister for education and information technology and communication in his father N Chandrababu Naidu’s government.

During one of the meetings, Lokesh set expectations by discussing a six-point resolution. He referred to these points as the six pillars of focus for the party and the government in the coming years:

Global Recognition for Telugu Nation: “Our Chandranna (Chandrababu Naidu Garu) has elevated the pride of the Telugu people to a global stage. Telugu people should excel in every field—education, technology, politics, and entrepreneurship,” said Lokesh.

Empowering the Youth: “We are ensuring meaningful representation for the youth in Telugu politics. Out of 164 MLAs, 88 are first-time winners, indicating a shift towards generational leadership. Since our government came to power, we’ve attracted numerous industries to generate employment. In June, 16,347 teacher positions will be filled through the Mega DSC recruitment drive. Our goal is to create 20 lakh jobs for the youth across various sectors,” Lokesh stated.

Women’s Empowerment: “Our Chandranna has helped women achieve financial independence and dignity. The previous government humiliated women in the Assembly and insulted their own mothers and sisters. Ensuring dignity, responsibility, and safety for women in every field is our commitment. We will introduce free RTC bus travel for women and the Thalliki Vandanam scheme in August,” the TDP leader announced.

Social Reengineering for the Poor: “TDP aims to build a society free from poverty. NTR Garu provided rice at Rs 2/kg, housing, and pensions for the needy. Today, our Chandranna provides a monthly pension of Rs 4,000, unmatched by any other state in India. Social justice for the poor is our firm commitment,” Lokesh added.

Supporting Farmers: “TDP has always stood by farmers. From NTR Garu to Chandranna, our party has worked to transform farmers’ lives. We firmly support Annadata and will continue to protect their rights and livelihoods. Andhra Pradesh leads in aquaculture, cocoa, and palm oil production and is second in mango and groundnut cultivation. When support prices for crops like tobacco and cocoa fell, CM Chandrababu Naidu announced support prices. We must consistently implement a farmer-first policy to truly support our nation’s food providers,” Lokesh said.

Activists as the Party’s Backbone: “Hardworking activists are the strength of our party. Our family members stand with us, unmatched by any other party. In the Telugu Desam Party, the leader is always an activist,” Lokesh emphasised.

Earlier in the day, Andhra Pradesh chief minister and TDP president Chandrababu Naidu spoke about his government’s welfare measures and how people in the state are free from political vendetta while benefiting from central and state schemes. He praised the efforts of his party’s cadre, highlighting the “oppressive politics” of the previous YSRCP government.

He recalled that in September 2023, the Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government arrested him overnight in the skill development scam, from which he later secured bail. Naidu’s arrest just before the elections and the “poor governance” by Jagan’s government led to YSRCP’s defeat, with the NDA sweeping both the assembly and Lok Sabha seats.
