In a setback for the ruling YSRCP in the Nellore rural assembly constituency ahead of the ensuing general elections, Vemireddy Surender Reddy, the chairman of Vedagiri Narasimha Swamy Devasthanams, and the vice-sarpanch of Devarapalem, stepped down from his roles and resigned from the YSRCP membership on Wednesday.
Surender Reddy, along with his followers, met with Kotamreddy Giridhar Reddy for a brief discussion on their next political course of action.
Speaking to reporters later, Surender Reddy announced that he would formally join the Telugu Desam Party on February 14 in the presence of Nellore rural MLA Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy. He expressed his commitment to work towards the victory of the TDP in the upcoming elections.
Meanwhile, Kotamreddy Sridhar Reddy stated that the exodus from the YSRCP to the Telugu Desam Party would likely increase in the coming weeks in the run-up to the polls. He emphasized that leaders and cadres themselves see no future for them in the ruling party, which is expected to face challenges in the 2024 elections.
