Nashik: All India Congress Committee secretary and Maharashtra in-charge BM Sandeep on Tuesday accused BJP-led state govt of not holding the civic polls deliberately for financial gains. He also warned of a statewide agitation demanding the elections at the earliest.
“The lack of elected representatives in the civic bodies is leading to huge corruption, pushing people’s issues to the side,” Sandeep alleged while addressing party workers during the party’s Nashik city unit meeting.
He urged the Congress office-bearers and workers to move past their defeat in the state assembly election and focus on building a stronger presence in the city and district for upcoming civic elections.
Sandeep alleged that Mahayuti stole votes to gain absolute majority in the assembly election. “People are now looking at Congress with great hopes. Hence, the party workers should focus on growing the organisation,” he said.
Party’s Nashik city in-charge Brijkishore Dutt also appealed to the party workers to strengthen the party’s base in view of the upcoming civic polls.
The Nashik city chief of Congress, Akash Chhajed, said ward-wise meetings of the party were to be started shortly as part of preparations for the civic polls. Nashik district chief of the party, Shirish Kotwal, also told party workers to work at the grassroots and sort out the issues of people in the district.
