Dhanush filed a lawsuit against Nayanthara and Vignesh Sivan for using three seconds of footage from his film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in their Netflix docu-drama Nayanthara: Beyond Fairytale. Nayanthara’s lawyer responded, stating they have complied with copyright laws and no violation occurred.
In an interview with Hindustan Times, Rahul Dhawan, representing Nayanthara, Vignesh Sivan, and Rowdy Pictures, clarified that there was no infringement. He also explained that the footage used in the docu-series was not behind-the-scenes material from the film but part of their personal library, thus not violating copyright.
Dhawan also shares that the next hearing in the Madras High Court is “expected on Monday”.The conflict started when Nayanthara posted on Instagram, accusing Dhanush of pressuring her and blocking the use of footage from their 2015 film Naanum Rowdy Dhaan in her documentary. She claimed that after editing out any film clips, Dhanush sent her a legal notice demanding ₹10 crore for using just three seconds of behind-the-scenes footage.
In response to the open letter, Dhanush’s lawyer issued a statement advising Nayanthara to remove the social media post.
