US President Joe Biden on Wednesday in a meeting with nearly two dozen Democratic governors at the White House said that he needs to get more sleep and work fewer hours and cut down on events after 8 pm. Biden referenced to pushing himself too hard and not listening to his staff’s advice about his schedule, telling the group he needed to rest more, New York Times reported quoting one person familiar to the matter.
Biden’s comments about needing more rest came after media sources reported that current and former officials have noticed that the president’s lapses over the past few months have become more frequent.
During the same meeting, in response to a question from Hawaii Governor Josh Green about his health, Biden humorously remarked that while his health was fine, “just my brain” was the problem.
The events unfold despite his repeated intention to continue his run for a second term following debate debacle against Republican nominee Donald Trump June 27 in Atlanta. However, President Biden told the governors that he was staying in the race and not conceding . The president blamed his lackluster effort on his extensive foreign travel.
Joe Biden also recently admitted that his performance during the presidential debate was not his best and also reiterated on the claim that it was a result of his foreign travels in June and not listening to his staff.
Speaking without a teleprompter during the debate, he admitted, “I didn’t have my best night, but the fact is that you know, I wasn’t very smart.” He explained that he had decided to travel around the world a couple of times before the debate, resulting in fatigue.
“Didn’t listen to my staff and came back and nearly fell asleep on stage,” Biden said. “That’s no excuse but it is an explanation.” Prior to the debate, he had travelled to France and Italy during two separate trips within a two-week period.
