NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan dismissed claims of a paper leak in the NEET-UG medical entrance exam on Thursday, stating that there is no evidence to support such allegations.
Pradhan also defended the National Testing Agency (NTA), calling it a credible body and rejecting accusations of corruption within the organization.
“The Supreme Court is hearing the matter and we will abide by its decision. We will ensure no student is at a disadvantage,” Pradhan told reporters.
Meanwhile, the Centre has informed the Supreme Court that it has cancelled the decision to award grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG, 2024 candidates for admission to MBBS, BDS, and other courses.
These students will now have the option to retake the exam on June 23, with the results being announced on June 30. Counselling for admission to various medical courses will commence on July 6.
The NTA conducted the examination on May 5 across 4,750 centers, with approximately 24 lakh candidates participating.
Although the results were initially expected to be declared on June 14, they were released earlier on June 4, likely due to the completion of the answer sheet evaluation process.
Allegations of question paper leaks and the awarding of grace marks to over 1,500 medical aspirants have sparked protests and legal actions in seven high courts and the Supreme Court.
67 students achieved a perfect score of 720, an unprecedented occurrence in NTA’s history, with six of them from a single center in Faridabad, Haryana, raising concerns about potential irregularities.
Students staged demonstrations in Delhi on June 10, demanding an investigation into the alleged anomalies, with some suggesting that grace marks played a role in the 67 students sharing the top rank.
