KOLKATA: Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose‘s family condemned on Saturday attempts by actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut to distort history and try to pit Bose against Jawaharlal Nehru by calling the former the first PM of India.
“Nehru was the first PM of the Dominion of India after the partition of Bengal and Punjab. This is history. No one can change it,” said Bose’s grand-nephew, Chandra Bose.
“Bose was the first and the last PM of undivided and united India (sic),” Chandra Bose claimed. “He was elected PM of Azad Hind, the govt-in-exile that was formed in Singapore on Oct 21, 1943,” he said.
Bose said all members of Netaji’s family and his followers found the attempts to use Netaji to belittle Nehru deplorable.
“Netaji is being used to counter Nehru and Congress, which is highly objectionable. Netaji was in Congress with Nehru, Gandhi and Chittaranjan Das for two decades (1921 to 1941). Though Netaji and Nehru had differences, they also had respect for each other. Had it not been so, Netaji would not have named brigades of Azad Hind Fauj after Nehru and Gandhi,” said Bose.
