NAGPUR: Just a day before the second deadline for the Smart Cities Mission ended on June 30, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has extended it for the third time. The new deadline for the project is now March 31, 2025. The Nagpur Smart and Sustainable City Development Corporation Limited (NSSCDCL) received a letter in this regard on Saturday, officiating Chief Executive Officer NSSCDCL and additional municipal commissioner Anchal Goyal told TOI.
Nagpur was among the cities selected under the mission in 2016. The initial deadline was June 2021, which was later extended to June 2023, and then to June 2024. The NSSCDCL, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) created for the project, received Rs 741.63 crore from the central government.
The project consists of two components, including Smart and Safe City Project and area based development. Worth Rs 524 crore, for the first component is completed, which includes 17 other types of smart solutions. A major share of the funding came from ex-CM Devendra Fadnavis, who approved Rs 400 crore from the state exchequer, with the remaining Rs 124 crore coming from the Smart Cities Mission. The second area-based development involves developing 1,743 acres in Pardi, Bharatwada, Bhandewadi, and Punapur in east Nagpur. A fund of Rs 741.625 crore was received from the central government for this component.
