NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu said on Wednesday that the new Parliament building embodies the essence of a “Better India” and showcases the rich heritage and culture of the country. Speaking at the joint session of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha in the new Parliament building, President Murmu highlighted the significant achievements of the past year.
This was her first address to both Houses in the newly constructed Parliament building. The President emphasised that the new Parliament building, which marks the beginning of the Amirt Kaal – a period aimed at transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, exudes the spirit of a “Better India”.
It symbolizes our commitment to uphold democratic values and parliamentary traditions. She stated, “It (the new Parliament building) has the fragrance of a Better India and reflects the glory of our culture and civilization.” The budget session of Parliament commenced on Wednesday and is expected to be the final session of the current Lok Sabha, with general elections scheduled for April-May this year.
Prior to the budget session, the suspension of opposition MPs, who were previously suspended for “rule violations” during the winter session, was lifted. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the interim budget on February 1.
President Murmu expresses optimism for a progressive future embodied by the new Parliament building.
The budget session will continue until February 9. The session is expected to witness important discussions and decision-making, shaping the nation’s path ahead.
