SRINAGAR: The National Investigation Agency on Tuesday filed a chargesheet at the special NIA court in Jammu against a Pakistani terrorist and two overground workers affiliated with an offshoot of the proscribed Lashkar-e-Taiba outfit over their links with a terror conspiracy.
The trio — Pakistan-based Habibullah Malik (alias Sajid Jutt/Saifullah/Noomi/Numan/Langda/Ali Sajid/Usman Habib/Shani) and Shopian natives Hilal Yaqoob Deva (alias Sethi Soab) and Musab Fayaz Baba (alias Zarar) — had planned to unleash violent terror attacks on security forces in the Union Territory using sticky bombs, IEDs and small arms etc., the agency said in a statement.
Probe revealed that Habibullah, a native of Kasur district in Pakistan’s Punjab province, was found involved in several terror strikes in J&K’s twin frontier districts of Poonch and Rajouri, said an NIA spokesperson. He was an active commander of Pakistan-based The Resistance Front — a shadow outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba — who was engaged in radicalising innocent Kashmiri youth to pick up arms.
Indoctrinated by Habibullah, Hilal and Musab had begun working as overground workers for the outfit. On Habibullah’s directions, the duo collected and transported funds and weapons to and from other overground workers to facilitate and support the terror network in J&K, the spokesperson said.
The accused were charged under relevant sections of the IPC and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The action followed investigations in the case registered suo moto by the NIA on June 21, 2022, in connection with the terror conspiracy plotted physically as well as in cyberspace by numerous terror outfits to spread fear and terror and disrupt peace in J&K, the spokesperson said.
