NEW DELHI: The government is providing all possible assistance in the case of Nimisha Priya, the Indian nurse facing the death penalty in Yemen, the ministry of external affairs (MEA) said on Thursday.Addressing media queries, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “The Government of India has been offering all possible assistance. We have provided legal assistance and appointed a lawyer to assist the family.” He added that Indian authorities are in contact with both local Yemeni authorities and Priya’s family to help resolve the case.Jaiswal noted that recent efforts have focused on seeking more time for Priya’s family to reach a mutually agreeable solution with the other party involved in the case. “We will continue to closely follow the matter and render all possible assistance. We are also in touch with some friendly governments in this regard,” he said.Priya, a nurse from Kerala, was sentenced to death in Yemen in connection with the killing of a Yemeni national. Her family is currently working towards securing her release through a blood money settlement.
