NASHIK: Niphad, a major grape-growing belt in Nashik district, was the coldest in the state on Friday as the minimum temperature here dropped to 11 degrees Celsius.
Nashik was the second coldest in the state with the minimum temperature dropping to 12.8 degrees Celsius.
Moreover, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted light rain in Nashik, Dhule, Nandurbar and Jalgaon districts of North Maharashtra on Saturday. However, the weather conditions will be dry the next day on Sunday.
According to the readings at the Rahuri-based Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth’s Weather Station, the minimum temperature in Niphad dropped by 2.5 degrees from 13.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday to 11 degrees Celsius on Friday.
Niphad had recorded a minimum temperature of 10.5 degrees Celsius on January 5 last year.
Before this, the season’s lowest minimum temperature in Niphad was recorded last year on December 25, 2023.
So far, the minimum temperature in Niphad has been favourable for the growth of grapes.
The grape harvest season has now gradually started in Niphad and it will pick up from the second half of January.
Meanwhile, Nashik city was the second coldest in the state on Friday as the minimum temperature dropped by 2.8 degrees to 12.8 degrees Celsius, against 15.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
Even though the minimum temperature of the city dropped by 2.8 degrees, there was not much change in maximum temperature at 29.3 degrees Celsius on Friday, against 29.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday.
Also, the minimum temperature in Jalgaon was 17 degrees Celsius on Friday, with a decline of 1 degree from the normal.
