NEW DELHI: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday nominated leading educationist from Punjab Satnam Singh Sandhu as a member of Rajya Sabha, filling one of the two RS seats under nomination category lying vacant for over 20 months.
Chandigarh University founder-chancellor Sandhu thanked PM Narendra Modi for giving him the chance to voice aspirations of people and said he will work towards strengthening efforts to build ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.
Sandhu, who is also an agriculturist, is credited with foundation of Chandigarh Group of Colleges in Landran, Mohali in 2001 and formation of CU in 2012.
Vice-president and RS chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar welcomed Sandhu’s nomination. Modi added that he is delighted that Sandhu is nominated to RS.
