NEW DELHI: The date from which the three criminal justice lawsBharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) – will come into force is likely to be notified before January 26, a senior government functionary said on Tuesday.
The full rollout of the three laws – involving updating the criminal justice infrastructure, software, training of human resources and complete computerisation of courts – is expected within a year, with most states on board regarding time-bound implementation of the new criminal justice system.
TOI had earlier reported that the date of enforcement of the three laws may be 3-4 months ahead. Once the laws come into force, all FIRs will be registered as per sections of the BNS. Law books have already been published on the new laws and are available for study by lawyers, police and other stakeholders.
Sources said the process of training of police, lawyers, prosecutors etc would be undertaken after January 26. The nearly 3,000 trainers are currently undergoing training by master trainers and they will be assigned across four zones to train personnel in the country’s 850-odd police stations.
The judiciary is likely to have a separate training programme for its officers. Even law colleges will have to take a decision along with the education ministry on when to introduce law books with the updated criminal justice laws..
The training of all arms of the criminal justice system will ensure smooth implementation of these laws , the government functionary said.
