Andhra Pradesh Environment Management Corporation Limited (APEMC) chairman Polamreddy Dinesh Reddy on Wednesday stated that the State government is according top priority to protecting the environment by minimising the quantum of waste generated.
Mr. Reddy inspected the TSDF (Treatment, Storage, Disposal Facility) plant, along with Venkatagiri MLA Kurugondla Ramakrishna, set up at Ravinguntapalli village in Rapur mandal under the Coastal Waste Management Scheme (Unit-2) on Wednesday.
He learnt from officials the processes involved in treating hazardous industrial waste at the plant and urged them to exercise caution while handling the waste.
The plant was established during the erstwhile Telugu Desam Party government to treat the industrial waste emanating from the scores of factories located in the undivided Nellore district, which has since penetrated Tirupati after the district reorganisation exercise.
“Environmental protection has emerged into a big challenge and daunting task. We are committed to ensuring proper treatment of the waste to ensure a safe future to posterity,” Mr. Reddy said.
