Near the end of Anime Expo, Crunchyroll announced that an anime adaptation for the famous web novel, Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, is in production. A release date has not yet been revealed. According to AnimeTV, the story will be adapted into an anime by Aniplex. No information has been given on the animation studio which will be animating the project.
Omniscient Reader’s Viewpoint, also known as Omniscient Reader, was written by a married couple under the pseudonym of Sing Shong.The plot follows Kim Dokja, a 29 year old man in Seoul who has spent the last 10 years of his life as the sole reader of a web novel called Three Ways To Survive In A Ruined World. When the novel finally ends, at chapter 3149, the story of the novel suddenly starts happening in real life. Kim Dokja finds that he is the only one that knows how the future will play out, and must partner with the protagonist of the novel, Yoo Joonghyuk, to reach the end of the stories alive, and defeat the being known as Constellations.
The book was developed into a manhwa (a Korean comic) in 2020, and it is still being serialised. It was published as 9 separate volumes by A.Tempo Media. In 2019, Munpia announced that the novel would be adapted into 5 feature-length live action movies, the first of which is slated to release in 2025. Actors Ahn Hyo-seop and Lee Min-ho will be playing Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk respectively, and the films will be directed by Kim Byung-woo.
