Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed Parliament on Saturday, reflecting on 75 years of the Indian Constitution.
He highlighted India’s goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047, stressing national unity as essential for achieving this. “Our Constitution is the basis of our unity,” Modi stated.
He praised India’s progress since 1949, calling it “extraordinary” and emphasizing the country’s historical democratic traditions. Speaking in the Lok Sabha after a two-day debate, Modi declared, “India is not only a big democracy but it is the mother of democracy.”
He credited the Constitution with guiding India’s development and acknowledged the contributions of its creators.
Modi also noted the Constitution’s granting of voting rights to women and praised the recent parliamentary approval of women’s reservation in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
He emphasized how India has surpassed expectations about its democratic future since independence.
