The Pandit Nehru Bus Station and the railway station in Vijayawada witnessed a heavy rush of passengers bound for various destinations since Friday morning.

More than 6,000 buses of the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) will hit the roads in the Coastal districts of Andhra Pradesh during the Sankranti period. The special buses which began on Friday (January 10) will run up to January 15.
Some lakhs of people who settled in different places in Telangana and abroad will visit their native places in Andhra Pradesh during the Sankranti festival.
The special buses will be operated to Narsapuram, Bhimavaram, Razole, Visakhapatnam, Ongole, Vijayawada, Amalapuram, Malkipuram, Gudivada, Rajamahendravaram, Machilipatnam, Guntur and other places in Krishna, Eluru, West and East Godavari, Guntur, Prakasam and other districts, with advance reservation facility.
“Sankranti special buses are being operated from KPHB, Miyapur, Khammam, Hyderabad, Karimnagar, and other depots and from the Jubilee Bus Station, Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, L.B. Nagar and other bus stations,” said a TSRTC official.
“Up to January 13, the special buses will transport passengers to their native places for the festival. Instructions have been given to stop the buses in villages as per passenger requests. From January 14, the buses will pick up passengers on return journey,” the officer said.
Meanwhile, the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS) and the railway station in Vijayawada were packed with festival crowd since Friday morning. Heavy rush was seen on all the platforms and at the reservation counters.
“The Eluru, Gudivada, Jangareddygudem, Guntur, Ongole and other bus stations witnessed a heavy rush of passengers. Some of them had been waiting for buses and trains since Thursday night,” said a passenger, K. Vani, of Undi in West Godavari district.
“With educational institutions declaring festival holidays from Friday, there is a huge rush in the bus and railway stations. We request the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) to run more buses during Sankranti. There are no buses towards Bhimavaram, Amalapuram, Narsapuram and other places,” said a passenger, Guttula Bhavani Shankar, of Kothapeta in Konaseema district.
