Seven years ago, Bollywood witnessed Ranveer Singh explore a character so dark and complex as left audiences stunned with his chilling performance as Alauddin Khilji in Padmaavat, a historical drama directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali. As the film marks its return to the theatres after seven years, we witnessed the energy of Ranveer Singh as Khilji spread among the audience in theatres as they broke into dance as soon as the popular number ‘Khali Bali’ played on the big screen.

For the unversed, Ranveer Singh portrayed the role of the ruthless Khilji which became a defining moment of sorts in Indian cinema as he cemented his place among the country’s finest actors. The craze definitely shows us how Ranveer Singh continues rule with his presence as Khilji on the screen.
Meanwhile, it is a known fact that Ranveer Singh had confessed about undergoing a dramatic transformation both physically and psychologically to embody the ruthless and cunning emperor. His physical and psychological metamorphosis was so intense that he became almost unrecognizable to embrace the dark aura of the character.
Coming to the film, based on the epic poem of Padmaavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, the film revolves around Maharawal Ratan Singh attempting to protect his kingdom and wife Rani Padmavati – a Sinhalese-born Rajput queen known for her beauty as Sultan Alauddin Khilji attacks their kingdom with a motive to enslave her after hearing of her beauty. Starring Deepika Padukone as the epitome of beauty Rani Padmavati, with Shahid Kapoor as her husband, the film also featured an ensemble cast of Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka in key supporting roles. The film originally released on January 25, 2018 and has now re-released in theatres on Thursday, February 6.
