HOSHIARPUR: Some pages of a Bir of Guru Granth Sahib were found torn in a gurdwara in village Nurpur Jattan in district Hoshiarpur. The incident came to the notice of the villagers on Thursday late evening, and they informed the police on Friday morning.
It is learnt that a function related to antim ardas (last prayers) of a village resident was held in the village gurdwara, which concluded around 1.30pm on Thursday.
“Then the family, relatives, and others were in the gurdwara till around 3pm while having food or meeting one another, as is the usual routine in such functions. When the gurdwara granthi, Tehal Singh, came to the gurdwara for the daily evening recitation of Gurbani, he found that 15 pages were torn, apparently by pulling out with hands,” said local Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee member Surinder Singh Bhullewal Rathan, who visited the gurdwara after getting the information.
He said that the granthi then informed the gurdwara committee. There were CCTV cameras in the gurdwara, but these were not working. The gurdwara committee then informed the police, who started an investigation.
