DMK MP Kanimozhi on Saturday defended social reformer and Dravidar Kazhagam founder Periyar EV Ramasamy, saying his comments on Tamil were not intended to insult the language but to instil scientific temper. The assertions follow claims by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman and a video circulated by BJP of a purported Periyar speech describing Tamil as “a barbaric language“.
